J. S. Bach: Preludes and Fugues, (Trans. for solo piano by August Stradal) 3CDs】
August Stradal (17 May 1860, Teplice, Bohemia – 13 March 1930, Krásná Lípa, Bohemia) was a student of Anton Bruckner. His pianistic credentials included studies with Franz Liszt. He produced a wide amount of solo piano arrangements of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Dietrich Buxtehude, Richard Wagner and other composers. Stradal’s arrangements sometimes tend to prove problematic, and almost too demanding for merely two hands, but constitute a fascinating array of music. One of the particular characteristics of his arrangements are the increased multiple voice assemblies used to highlight the original melody as much as possible and an almost excessive increase in notes for the left-hand part. Many of them are considerably difficult to perform. This set presents a series of Stradal’s arrangements of Bach’s organ Preludes and Fugues (BWV.531 - 552, exc. 551) performed by the virtual pianist Michael Nanasakov.
